Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

My next incubator will definitely have an Auto turning system. The ideal system will turn tilt the eggs 90 degrees on the hour.

I amthinking of trying an actuator that is used in AC ducting. It powers the arm to raise it and then a spring lowers it when power is cut. A single timer is required. the key would be to balance the load so its not strained
Several people I know have adapted the turning mechanism from those cheap pedestal fans.

would that require the fan to run continuously? 25 watts x 24 for a month is 18kw. Thats 50 bucks a year to run a fan. There are no old fans lying around so a new one is $25. the 3 year cost is $175.

Thats not excessive

they are used on chicken doors

I need something that can turn 800 eggs. I think that the set up in a sportsman type bator is too small.

One that can handle 40lbs is 120 buck. If balanced properly, it should never get close to having to lift that

have you seen this or come up with it? have you already gotten unit weights for turning and such, will this be for ducks etc?

i came up with it

800 eggs weighs around 100 lbs

But ballanced across a fulcrum evenly they would weigh zero.

I figure that if we were to load it with a 25 pound imbalance, the 45 lb should be enough
