Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Wow! I want a bator like that one!

Glad you were able to spend some well deserved time with your family Oz. No matter how short, family time is the reward. Sorry to hear about possible delays in the adoption. I hope it works itself soon.

Quote: OMG, Oz- you and the Mrs. are amazing. With all the quick trips and being so far away from each other.....you guys really have your hands full with the adoption process

I hate it for you!! However, I know you will persevere and all will be right soon!!
Glad you made it there and back safely!!
Hi to Grandma Oz, Mama Oz, kiddos, and Bernie and family!

Wow, I counted at least 15 dozen eggs. Bernie is going to freak out if everyone of those hatch!

Waitng and watching!
15 doz + chicken
18 duck
80+ quail

I am so confused with the exact numbers.

Bernie could handle it. lol. In reality I expect less than 50% hatch rates. One of my requirements was to try and get at least 12-18 of each breed to ensure atleast a breeding trio. The travel is hard on the eggs.

I now have to sit back and relax.

Please send me plans & instructions for that bator!!!! My 3 styro bators keep fluxing really bad on temps & killing entire hatches. I really need a new bator!!!

I will attempt to draw plans. I basically built as I went.

I normally use an electronic thermostat - a STC-1000 on ebay or amazon. The one that I took over to the Philippines was wrong - it was a cooling thermostat - not a heating one - the STC-1000 is both.

I ended up having to cannibalize a hovabator for the thermostat.

The temps were stable but I prefer the set and forget ease of the digital option.

I have 3 styro bators I can rip apart for parts if need be. I just don't have turners in them. I'd love to have something I can just tip to turn all of the eggs at once. I know the thermostats & such in them are good, my house just doesn't hold a stable enough temp to let them work properly. When you have walls & ceilngs ripped out remodeling it lets a lot of drafts in from outside.
