Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

what brand of bator are you using?
i was looking at a little giant but after talking to people who
had them in the past i figured i would pass
i ended up going with 2 hovabators 1 has the picture window so i use that 1 as a hatcher
& my turner is in the other. oh also both have a fan kit in them.

good luck

on styro bators, i prefer the hovabator with fan kit. a 12v computer case fan will work but run it on a 5v phone charger rather than 12v. it will tame it

That's the exact mod I just did on my Hovabator. 80mm CPU fan powered by a 7v Nokia phone charger. Mounts right to the holes already in the lid.

Outer tray only of water has my humidity at 75% which is great for hatching.

Ooooh! I like

wheels turning..... lol
my row house design is similar but will be 4 x 8 with 4 x 12 foot open runs.should be good for 6 girls and a happy roo. I am building 6 initially. I will build more as I need them. I will use mostly bamboo construction with thatched roofs

most bators will not hold temp if it gets below 60f in the room
once you get 1 room finished off somewhat put the bators in there, that should help
we only have about 6 sheets of sheetrock in the whole house(the bedroom)
but all the insulation is in so it holds it's temp alrite
i gutted the inside back when i was driving my rig coast to coast
as money shows up we buy materials to put it all back together.

i would add a fan kit to those bators, this will give you more even heat
i think they are about $32 each but you can just get 1 at a time if you like.

good luck

I don't want to sink any more money into my styro bators at all. I'm on the hunt for a cabinet.

That's what I need to do, if I can get the ground level enough & the trees cleared out of the way.

Building a cabinet incubator is quite economical.

I will put the plans and pictures together of another one I am building - its takes 3 turners and has a digital thermostat.

I'm looking to make 1 that doesn't require purchasing expensive turners. I have seen a few with tilt trays that you can tilt by hand & was looking more along those lines.

Probably the least expensive easiest breed house i have seen to date

Its a short thread about 37 posts. mechanically excellent but needs a couple of changes for California What he did was take a car port and swap the legs for the top with the legs for the height...... I would do one like this if I were doing breed pens.

excellent for california indeed.

It would last one season in our salty environment. I built a water tower four years ago. I would not send Bernie up it now. We have town water coming in a month. It may be a good thing.
