Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Finally caught up again....

Its about 106 degrees at my house. Humid. Ugh. Eggs have slowed to a trickle here :( but hoping to set you up for your next trip Oz.

Pretty miserable weather but at least we can escape to the coast or to the river!
Ill take this over freezing cold any day :)

I prefer sweaty armpits to frozen toes also
i'm telling you OZ your on the wrong coast
i never got into the 80's here

i checked the eggs out in the coop under broody hen #1
nothing, i guess it must have gotten too warm out there at some point & killed them off
so i pitched em in the trash
so we got 3 whites & 1 black french Bresse meaties
if the black is a hen i'll have some mixed meat birds for camp
if it's a roo he can go in the pot i guess
i may look into getting another batch of eggs come oct

i guess it's good that i didn't put all my eggs in 1 basket or in this case up under one broodys
i still have 5 duck eggs & a couple lemon britts in the bators who should be hatching out at the end of the week

if i can get 1 lemon pullet & a breeding pair of muscovies life will be good

you ended up with hatch rates not too different from mine for the bator eggs.

i will try again for you when it cools a bit.

the duck eggs i requested to be collected and sent today were shipped friday and arrived today so they are 3 days older than i hoped. I am going to contact Metzer

i was happy with 4 out of 7 in the bator
i see that you tend to get way more bloodrings with shipped eggs
but atleast we have a start on the french Bresse so we have something to show for our efforts

thanks OZ

it's D day OZ!!! what be the plan!??

i will contact odyssey and see what they collected and send you a message. they weren't sure on silkies and white crested black polish.

awesome on the HFR eggs.

Odyssey is a bust. They did not collect eggs due to the weather. 115F is too hot to have viable eggs.
