Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

I am too scared to offend her. Lol

I have personally witnessed the powers of belief in magic and spirits in Bali. I have seen people with education and scientific careers go into trances and writhe around on the ground having seizures until miraculously cured with a sprinkle of holy water.

Belief is reality.

Time to get moving and be a chicken farmer.

So Oz, need your input. - I want to stagger my meat birds so I'm raising several at a time that I can then butcher 10-15 birds every week. But I'm not sure how many I need to continue order and if I should start trying to hatch them instead of just raise them? I thought about trying to raise other birds and cross breed so I wouldn't have to order them all the time but I'm beginning to wonder if that will be feasible...not sure at this point seems easiest to order and raise but I do hate the idea of being dependant on an outside source for good meaties.

It really depends on what sort of meaty you want and how quickly you want to process them.

You will not be able to produce frankenchicken Cornish rocks at home unless you can find parent stock.

Other options are much slower growing. A new Hampshire Delaware or white rock will mature in double the time meaning more coops. You will get a tastier bird though. Are you selling the birds or is it for home consumption?

You may consider ordering twice the birds every two weeks and process half.

I wonder where I could get parent stock for "franken chicken" ...LOL

ISA sells parent stock for hatching ISA Browns and other similar white, black egg machine breeds. I am sure there are places that would sell parent stock for meaties. I guess you should be prepared to pay more for them than CX chicks though.

I can help you out with ISA links, but I have not looked for CX sites.
