Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Quote:
they did out at the boarding stable.... Mom evicted them from the back yard because she got tired of skiing on the poo on the back patio.

Back yards here are very very small. only about eight feet wider than the house and about 20 feet from the back of the house to the fence....

Hello. I have been following the thread and find it very interesting and informative. I have been hoping to have some RIRs and orpingtons for sometime now, and in the process of looking for a source, I came about BYC, and found Oz.

After the long search, and the exciting wait, I finally received my first orpingtons, and a bunch of other beautiful birds! Thanks to Oz for sharing his flock, and to Mrs. Oz who patiently brought them to the airport for the domestic flight to Manila.

I got the package - all four boxes - containing 12 birds in total at about 8 last night, and rode the 6-hour trip to Baguio City, 250 kms north of Manila, arriving at 3 a.m.

The chooks are obviously tired, but holding well, proof that they are in excellent health. I am surprised at how big they are, considering that they are just about 8 weeks old. They are such beautiful birds, and I look forward to having these as my starter flock.

Thanks again, Oz. I am sure I am just one among your many very satisfied customers!

I am glad you like the birds and they arrived in good shape. We had to reduce the number of birds per box because they grew so fast - the largest birds are about 12 weeks.

The BBS orps are great looking birds.

I tried to give you an intersting selection from the barnyard mix. There may a blue or green egg layer amongst them.

I am hatching every egg laid. I hope to have more stock available for sale by mid September.

Good luck in your endeavors.

And the race is on!! Do you sell what might be a good laying hen later, or sell a pullet now for a few bucks?
Good luck with your dance!!

I am keeping every chick hatched until sept and will put them in grow out pens.

In sept I will evaluate how many I have of each breed and make a decision to begin selling chicks again.

I want 40 pullets/hens of buff orp, RIR, barred rocks and NH, then 20 pullets/hens of each other breed before I start selling those breeds.

I am hoping that by September I will be able to sell Andalusians, Easter Eggers, Cuckoo Marans, White Rocks, Barred Rocks, RIR, Jerseys, Buff and BBS Orps.

By Christmas, I will have Silver Laced and White Crested Black Polish, Ameraucanas, Breda, Australorps, Black Copper Marans New Hampshires, Red and Black Sex Links.
