The DW make up a concoction that is about 1/2 Skin so Soft with a few other things mixed in.
NO, the Skin so Soft is the MAIN repellant, and the other stuff just helps make it sprayable and last a bit longer! (and cut the smell abit also)

Scott

I learned of using it when I was in the Army. A corporal told me about it. As he put it "It works if you don't mind smelling like a French whore."

I have used just vinegar and olive oil before. It works for about 2 days before you need to reapply. I have used the Skin So Soft oil (not lotion) with it too mixing equal parts of each. It works a little longer, like 3 days. I have also used olive oil, vinegar and sunscreen on my sheep to keep the sun from fading (the colored sheep) and damaging the wool. If you have a horse that sunfades it will work to keep them dark. You can always add some Skin So Soft to take care of the bugs at the same time.

I saw a chart somewhere that listed the effective times for the various known mosquito repellent products. Deep woods off was the longest lasting at around 4 hours, any product with Deet was indicated to last the longest. Skin-so-soft products were only effective around 30 minutes. I've gone back to look at the source but I can't find it. I'll keep looking, I don't think it was sponsored by the manufacturer of Deet though. ;)

Having worn the Skin So Soft in the woods (the oil) I can attest that it works for at least 12 hours. I am the Chigger Queen and they will hunt me down and make my life miserable. As a kid I once had a complete belt of welts around my waist about 2 inches wide. The oil should be put on all the tight places that the chiggers will dig into.

Between this weekend rain storms, the playhouse is moving along. There will be an entrance and exit on the front using the deconstucted ladder slide with a wall in between. The floor will have those kid rubber ABC tiles.

It should be ready next weekend when the kids get back there.

The chickens would love your playhouse, Oz. They could perch on the steps and slide their eggs down the slide. But I'm sure the kids will love it too, it's looking good. Put in a couple of hammocks in there, and they can camp out in their little 'fort'. Oh, and one thing I loved as a kid on that kind of things, was a crane mounted on the outside with a bucket that could be used to lift sand and other things.
