Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Sorry to hear about the fail. The upgrade should make it much easier to manage. We went from 'twist to set' to digital controller and it was just so much simpler, and honestly, relaxing to know it did not have to constantly be checked.

Will be completely different machines then, just a shame it had to be learnt with such a loss.

There are some great candling threads on here, if you can get your hands on a printer, maybe print them off, bind them for your next trip, that way, Bernie (happy birthday too mate) will have colour pictures and a day by day chart. I assume he does not have the net to verify with. Just an idea.

Love the attitude, knocked down, stand up, dust yourself off and take another step forward. Toe to toe with tomorrow!

Wow ben - you are up late or very early - but perfect timing for the boost. Thanks mate.

I planned to take a binder there with candling pics as well as pics of the breeds I am hatching at various feathering stages so he has an idea of who is doing what.

I can tell as I specifically differentiated colors or other features (such as 5 toes) when I decide what to hatch at one time.

I was perusing some older photos and found the before pics of our place in the philippines.

We arrived in the Philippines to begin the adoption of children Jan 30 2009.

We moved in after essentially stripping back and rebuilding a 30 year old house that was abandoned for 12 years, Mrs Oz has planted 30 different types of fruit trees as well as ornamental palms, plumerias gingers, lilies and a host of other plants. The only ornamental she has paid for was a fijian fan palm for me. She will stop on the side of the road and collect cuttings and is constantly propagating. On visits to hawaii, we have collected scores of frangipani (plumeria) cuttings. She can be seen climbing trees, digging through garden refuse on the side of the road and knocking on doors to ask for a clipping. A true gorilla gardener.

so sorry to hear about the quail eggs. But just look at all you have accomplished at your place! It is beautiful! Mrs. Oz sounds like me, always snipping a plant here or there to take home with me!

you can find a pair of pruners in her purse at all times

its crazy to pay for plants when people thin their gardens and throw them in green bins or on the side of the road.

The only other plants she paid for was the 100 mahogany trees to line the driveway - they were 5 cents each as seedlings.

lol a couple of years ago my son and I hauled a load of trash to the landfill. Someone before us had trimmed up their geraniums so of course I grabbed a few peices when the dozer driver wasn't looking! Had some real nice flowers that summer.

Dramas afoot!

Its day 19 and we have a power outage.

Ay currumba!

Fortunately, the chicks will be generating a lot of heat themselves but good golly. The ambient temp is now in the mid 80s. Sun is up and beating down on the bator shed's tin roof. We will put the shed in lockdown and see if we can get the room up to the 90s.

Hopefully it will be back on in an hour and we can all breathe.

Hopefully.
