Hey instedad of putting duplexes up.... why not do a "back to nature" bed and breakfast. youd get more income....

We face north. Jan to March, winds are N-NNE, March to December NW.

Even on the other side, smell is minimal. The quail poop boards get scraped daily and the manure is composted. Rice husks dried out anything that lands on it. The pigs get hosed out 3 times a day and their poop goes into a septic system.

We are zoned agricultural.

BYC friends, I have been off the forum for awhile, my father died, but I wanted to share this pic of him holding a turkey poult and
then proudly smiling next to it when we spent thanksgiving together. He thought I was crazy to raise my own birds, but he loved every minute of the stories
and when he was visiting would talk to them. the last 2 years with him were so much fun, he will be missed very much...but always in our hearts.

We're hoping to start a produce garden this year, too. Like many of you, our goals are to move towards a lifestyle that is more self-sufficient and I agree that something has been lost in recent generations.

We have NO idea what we're doing though, lol. Our neighbor came over and plowed a large plot for us...I hope to do berries on one side and veggies on the other side. When we bought this house, we planted raspberries, blueberries, grapes, and a bunch of fruit trees (apples, pears, peaches and cherry). We have a mature cherry tree already, and this past summer we found a huge mature apple tree in the back of the property.

I did my first canning this past fall...raspberry jam. It went pretty well!

My initiation into canning was apricots on our farm in Oz.

A few years back, Mrs Oz and I had a 17 day Thanksgiving vacation in Kauai. I am not sure how many of you have been to the garden isle but lets just say its not bustling. We had a very relaxing vacation and ended up making 70lbs of Guava Jelly. We maild home our clothes and brought our soon to be Christmas gifts on the plane.

I have no idea either... I grew up with my mom gardening, but I can't say I remember much of it.. and it's pretty useless in Alabama

First year here (2009) I planted a peach tree and a blackberry. I finally got about a pint of berries last year and a dozen small peaches.

We've got big dreams.. now just gotta learn how to realize 'em.
