Caprino requested a set of martini tables and high speed internet but he got a floor of 1x3 coco lumber.

He says that he will work with what he got.

The original people of the Philippines are the Negritos for whom the island we live on was named. They are diminutive, dark skinned curly headed people who live in tribes. We have a group, the Ati, who live in the mountains behind us. I was really surprised when I first saw a couple of them in Cayuaun, our local poblacion or township, where the municipal seat is located. They are very friendly trusting people who have been easily taken advantage of through modern history. Here are some pics.

Okay, i have to finally step out of "lurking/reading" mode to post. There's just too darn much coincidence that keeps me glued to the computer reading this entire thread.

I am a Los Angeles Native, from the Eagle Rock area... where there's a HUGE Filipino Colony. I met and married my husband when he was stationed on Pendleton in San Diego. My mother and brother still currently live in Santa Ana, not to far from those Disney Fireworks. When my husband and i bought our first home in San Jacinto and then later in Temecula he would constantly bug me to let him have chickens. I kept saying no... even though he had some in his adolescence in the Bronx, NY INSIDE his 5th floor walk up apartment. (my mil coddled him quite the bit lol) With his many years in the service we are currently in Florida where I've finally been bitten by the chicken pox... but only AFTER visiting his native Island and seeing all the loose chickens running the streets at large in the Dominican Republic and i was in love and wanted my own flock. My first 3 got confiscated after some mean nosy neighbors called Animal Control. Strangely i can't have chickens in the little country hick town i live in. So we are in the process of buying and establishing a small family farm so we can finally get crazy and get all the birds and animals we want.

I was finally drawn out to comment because the Negritos look a lot like Dominicans, lol. If i didn't know better.....

Now i got to get back to reading. I'll post again a few hundred pages later.

Coincidences are often amazing. The world is a huge place but getting smaller every day.

The mix of African and Carib sure makes the Dominicans look like the Negritos. My wife and I have a strong connection with the Latin Carribean and feel very at home there. The food is also very similar to some Filipino food.

We also savor the Cubano influence in Florida and have thought of settling there.

Wow, got 'em some years apart! We're having a girl in April as well, other kiddos are 2 and 6 though. Good to hear your eldest are doing so well.

We lost my mom and my mother-in-law last summer too (talk about weird coincidences, huh?). It's been a year..

This winter has been outrageous, it may not be as cold as it's over there, but definitely unusual. How cold has it been over there? I'm sure the weather is making you lose birds... hungry animals know how to find you, sadly.

Here's to a better 2014.

Yeah its been cold. Couple nights were -20 F or worse I stay up nights to tend the woodstove since its our primary heat source. And the house is big and almost 100 years old. This morning was -10 w/o wind. Funny a few days ago its was like 45F. Grew up with worse weather but that was 30 years ago and I didn't age well I guess.

Friday was de-lice day.

We gave every bird a drop of Ivermectin pour on. It will de-worm them as well.

Using WhatsApp I recorded the sounds of the male and female Guineas so Bernie can tag them. They were surprised to be able to receive a sound file on the Android. We will keep all the males until I get there then we shall put a couple of the younger guys in the oven,

The hens should start laying soon.

We lost the last batch of Scovie ducklings to the rain and winds and we discovered the dogs have taken a liking to duck eggs so now they will get a duck pen for breeding. It will be a basic structure along the same design as the goat house but not raised and have a dirt floor and it will on the far side of the pig pens.

The new vege gardens are being prepared.

Hopefully buy the 4th of July we will have food independance!
