If they were alive, I'm sure it just needs some time. A few degrees shouldn't have killed them, just slowed them down some. Give it a day, then candle one. Or listen for peeping.

Personally I dont diaper chickens.

We used Costco or Huggies bought on Amazon Prime Subscription for our kids. Re-usables cause too much irritation unless you are prepared to change them constantly every hour

They stopped using diapers

My momma did the whole cloth diaper thing with us kids. I don't see the point. The amount of water wasted and bleach used cleaning the darn things can't be that much better for the environment than a disposable.

I'm a Pampers gal. I tried other brands, but they suck. I can't stand crinkly diapers. Or the kind where I pull the tabs off when I pull too hard x_x

My step-son was in Pull ups until he was 4ish. That one was rough. Got to a point that they just didn't have a size bigger than 4-5T. When he learned he couldn't go to pre-school if he didn't straighten out his crap (pardon the pun) he learned REAL fast. He's gonna be 6 in April and is still a bedwetter if I give him anything to drink past dinner time and/or don't wake him up to go to the bathroom at 10 or so.

I expect my son to take just as long to potty train, if not longer. We'll see.

Chickens are much easier to care for. But you can't spank a chicken or put them in time-out, if they're bad. The best you can do is give them a stern talking to and have them look at you like you're batty... much like my kids.

Oh goodness! No no no! Cloth diapering has come a VERY long way since the days when we were younger and our folks did the whole pins and diaper service thing.

Bleach? No, it ruins the elastic. I used a combination of simple green and super washing soda...very small amounts.

Changing every hour? Absolutely not. The cloth diapers of today are very absorbant. I couldn't do overnight with my kids, because they were strong wetters, but many folks do, with much less irritation than from sposies.

We actually had a small hose (think a kitchen sink hose) that attached to our toilet. We'd spray the diaper contents into the toilet, put the diaper in the diaper pail and maybe two or three times a week, wash a diaper load.

For us, we pampered the first baby, started pampering the second baby, and found out the third baby was coming and realized diapers were just too darn expensive (remember, there's only 11 months from kid 1 to kid 2, and 16 months from kid 2 to kid 3 and 13 months from kid 3 to kid 4).

So the green factor for us was the moolah we'd be saving by doing cloth, lol!

Also, my hubby just TOTALLY deflated my chicken plans bubble! I was all set to purchase the Brinsea and he was like, "Nope, too expensive". GAAAAAAH!

I'm going to have to think about this for a bit and come up with a good angle on why I NEEEEEEED a $150 incubator.

Do what I do. Sell some stuff on Ebay, then turn around and spend the money on something else (like an incubator).

Bernie states he is pain free and back to normal. I am still having him take it easy for the next week. I don't want this turning into a life-long complaint.

The chickens are laying well. The British BBS Orps are leading the pack and the way its going they will be my first commercially viable breed. Such huge birds. I am pleased they are layers as well.

This upcoming trip will be short. I want to make sure I don't over commit myself to projects. I really want to spend time playing with my kids.

I arrive Saturday and get to see Toni in her 1st Ballet performance. Sunday morning we will set eggs. I will spend the afternoon tweaking an incubator on a bench on the front Verandah so I can watch the kids play. Morning and afternoon swims with the kids.

Monday we will map out the construction plans. I will teach Bernie compressor 101 and cold galvanize the pig farrowing pens.

Tuesday morning wrestling the kids and then head back to the city for the flight back.

1 - If you can get the brinsea octagon for $150 that is the steal of the deal.
2 - I convinced my hubby by calculating the expense of lost eggs. With Shipped eggs that added up pretty quickly.
