Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Quote:
Sea containers here run between 2000 and 2500 depending on where you get them. Mine has a wooden floor. I got it from a race track for around 1200. Delivery was kind of free. The fellow that bought my last house was a contractor he had access to a BIG Truck. Big enough to move a 40 footer. But normal delivery can be almost as expensive as the container. Especially to my house which is Far Far away from the dealers. Burying one would be expensive too. I wouldnt do it without some serious rust protection. Same goes for the school bus.

Cost us about $3500 after tax, that includes the building permit, yard of gravel for the bottom of the hole and a few new tools (a new wheel barrel, rake and work lights.... much easier to work after the sun goes down). Not bad at all.

Oz, seems like one would not want an in-ground in the phils... water and all that.

...and I think ours would make a terrible coop

not very good ventilation.. enough for people, not poop machines.. er... chickens.

O.M.G! I finished it...took a few days, but by golly I finished it!

What a saga! It's edge of your seat drama, romance, angst, and an emotional roller coaster.

First let me congratulate you on the adoption of your beautiful children. Second, let me congratulate you for not only following a dream, but actually making it happen (even though I know it's ongoing)! And third, let me congratulate you for not ever giving up and continuing to make things happen in your personal paradise.

I too have chickens, goats, quail and pigs. Well, the pigs now reside in the freezer and not the pasture - but technically they are still on premise.

And, you should take full credit for my ebay order today of silkie eggs. Who needs more chickens? Certainly not me, but they were missing from my master plan and so I followed your lead and won the auction.

I know you are about to embark on another journey so let me wish you safe travels and wonderful family time.

Firstly, secondly, thirdly Thank You

With chicken math I dont count chickens in the "stainless steel finish" coop but it makes sense to do it with pigs.

As far as the Silkie eggs go - dont blame me!! lol

Keep coming back but another must read is Ben's Diary Thread

I will do my best with photo updates while I am away. I cant risk having more cats posted here/

Thanks for the tip - I'll check out Ben's diary also. And, I MUST blame someone else for the Silkie eggs! To take personal responsibility would be to admit that I just couldn't help myself! What I didn't say is that I have another bid in on another batch of Silkie eggs AND more Barred Holland eggs... sigh. Oh well, I haven't hatched chicks in a year - been focusing on quail lately. Those little buggers taste GOOD and sooo easy to process.

Can't wait for pictures! No worries about me ever posting cat pics...cats creep me out. Nothing against any cat lovers!! But no promises that I won't post a grandbaby pic every now and then ... they have me wrapped around their fingers! They love coming to "the farm" and helping out. I swear they break more eggs than they ever get to the house - but in the whole grand scheme of things - who cares! I can get a new egg every day, but can never replace a grandchild's joy when they find an egg.

and p.s. I'm not a nurse - but DH is!
