Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

I think that's expected of someone known as "The Crazy Chicken Man".

The better half suggested I should change my nickname here to "The Crazy Compost Man" due to my affectionate relationship with my compost bin.

I have pet soldier fly larvae in my compost that I feed daily...

Do I even want to ask?

Scott, I even have my very own thread where I document the progress of my composting with semi daily updates.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/900637/hot-composting-with-chicken-bedding-and-garden-waste

Somehow the better half seems to think it's weird when I turn my compost three times a day and scream at her when she threw half a bag of very stale potato chips into the trash yesterday and demanded that she dig them back out. Perfectly normal things to do

I have been lurking on your page Felix.

It's quite an achievement
I'm really happy with how it's been going so far. It's amazing how cheaply you can whack together something that magically transforms waste into black gold, and actually looks half decent. The real test will be seeing how it fares through the winter though, but I think the fact that I just painted it grey will help it capture more heat from the sun to keep it from freezing.

Our current compost areas are wrapped in GI roofing with too much rust to use for anything else. Its not pretty but it works.

After the front fence and piggery extension, I will put up some hollow block walls on the fence to make it all pretty

When working with as many animals as you do, I think function should come first, then you can worry about aesthetics once everything is done (never).

Popping back out of lurkdom to wave hello and to say I love your website so far. Can't wait for the Poultry In The Kitchen page to be up and running. I'm always on the lookout for any cooking recipes and tips. Keep up the great work!
