Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

I will take a picture of a Filipino wood stove this week.

Mrs Oz left on a jeepney to kabankalan this morning. She will get an AC bus from there to Bacolod. its about 6 bucks round trip with jeeps and a taxi to her folks house. The car costs around 16 dollars in diesel and it's way less stressful to sleep on a bus. she will return on the morrow.

I have to get up at 2:30 to load pigs and get them to market.

I will let Bernie actually sell them. hopefully we get $2.20 a kilo.

I will take pictures.

We will haul 1000kg of coco lumber home. I need to have a wood drying shed built. Bernie is casting the footings out of concrete today as well as building a landing outside the egg house to set the concrete sink.

We set 100 more eggs today and we have chicks hatching..

We are on sow watch are waiting for the milk to drop .

Another fun day in paradise.

I just got word that 120 pusogs and been delivered to the house in kabankalan. I am hoping a truck is available to save me hauling. if not they will go ahead of the coco lumber tomorrow so the fence can be complete by the weekend

How many pigs are you selling, and does Bernie get an extra cut or is it part of his job?

before I got here we had chickens molting big time so along with no eggs when Bernie was off, collections were low. there are about 70 local eggs that will hatch the same week as the shipped eggs.

I have about 120 teenagers, 30 elementary school, 70 toddlers and 30 hatching now. I should have enough of my main breeds now for 20-25 hens except barred rocks. I was down to two hens with Dominic so the rebuild has been slow. Still I have at least 15 juvies. The buff orps were in a similar situation but are also built back up.

I had separated the red colored. mix breeds from the non red and put a RIR roo in with then to sell brown colored brown egg layers. Thee were a couple of blue layers in there but I pulled them out and put then in the easter egger pen with the BCM lad. the red mix are my best layers. the coop next to it has the non red mixed girls. there is a breda fowl roo in there along with the black bresse and a couple of dinner roos. I need to fridge the Breda but have to give the order. I was waiting for freezer space. I am not going to develop the Breda Fowl line so he will be adobo.

I am trying to get time to band the "do not eat" muscovies and will fridge a couple of young drakes. we have about 20 or more that are 5 months old as well as a couple of batches of new ducklings.

there are Fifteen penned adult guinea. we have 7 free rangers that remind me of CSI examiners combing the yard for clues. there are also 12 juvies. no eggs at the moment from the older birds. they should kick into laying mode in spring.

I hope to bring Rhode island whites, silver laced wyandotte, cream leg bar and new Hampshire as well as giant pekins and and Rouen ducks early next year then finally establish turkeys.
