Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

you can watch the process on YouTube.

pigs don't have a hanging sack that is amenable to banding

I have a an "elastrator" I use on goats but you have to watch for infections in the tropics.

back in the day my pop and I could band nutsacks and tails of a couple of hundred lambs in a day

I have seen both process for lambs on youtube... banding and the more traditional way.... I would rather do it the more traditional way.... slitting the sack letting the testicle drop then crushing all the veins that attach it before removing the testicle. I can't imagine with that many a person would do it by biting, but with a crushing tool.

They do horses in a similar manner Unless they are Cryptorhchid. Gets very expensive then.

So I imagine Pigs would be similar... slit the sack crush the veins then remove the testicle... My horse shoer was the one that did pigs at my boarding place... He used a new razer blade (before the days where scalpels were easy to come by) Feathered the cut so the vens would close off on their own. Heck back then the stable owner was still using metal Syrringes to administer horse shots....

I passed out.... I wasnt even watching just hearing Inky and Stinky scream because they were tied up... Not for any pain because the "surgery" wasnt happening yet.

I was taught how to do dairy cows with a 200cc stainless steel with glass insert syringe, just swish the needle in bleach or alcohol and go on to the next cow.
But that was back in the day I guess that I'm old school. Yes, we now use the throw-aways, much easier and safer.

so the goat went from improving testicles to intensive care unit

yesterday the scrotum was massive and angry. it had what looked like a necrotic area from a spider bite

I pulled out the surgical kit and made a 2cm incision. the discharge has put me off condensed milk for a long long time.

I ended up irrigation it by inserting an infant feeding tube and flushing out with a enrofloxixin solution until clear. today I had to repeat the process but the poor fellow is septic.

I may have to start an iv on him and give him some fluids tonight if he does not pep up.

the eggs are in lock down, the pig is tormenting us.

busy times.

The wed set from 3 weeks ago are hatching.
the 10 piglets are doing well
the mama goats are all looking very pregnant.

I am heading to kabankalan. I will do my best to post some pics
