Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Oh Thank God! I finally got back into my BYC account. I have not been able to log on since just before Halloween because I lost my cheatbook with my passwords. I have missed all of you so MUCH!

GULP Oz said he loves me - what did I do now?? How does Mrs.Oz feel about it?

It might be your new Christmas Lights in the up-dated avatar?

drama here big time

pig went into labor but started hemorrhaging after first piglet.

it was battle stations. I sent Dodong for iv fluids and gave pitocin. she lost a liter of blood but stopped after second dose.

3 piglets out. i she seems ok. has been drinking so she is relaxing fluid without iv.

the only vein I can see is on the ear. I am not looking forward to have to use it.

here is hoping things normalize

Oz, hope you get her stabilized quickly. I was trying to look up if you can hydrate pigs subcutaneously, but I'm not finding anything on that so the answer is probably no. With dogs, cats and rodents that would have been a good option, their skin is different from us humans, you can inject a pouch of fluid under there and it will slowly be absorbed. You could try giving fluids orally with a large syringe though (without the needle). Some sort of electrolytes or sugars would probably not hurt either.

*Edit* What I did find though, is that the ear is the most commonly used site when hydrating pigs.
