Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

outstanding job with the pictures OZ

after all they say a picture is worth 1000 words :)

got my 8/10 week old buffs all sexed & split up

the top level of my new 3 level brooder is up & running

i'll take some pics once i get it finished

it had been a 4 level brooder but i wasn't happy with it

we are now going 1/4" wire mesh instead of buying bag after bag of shavings

clean outs should be quick & easy

We look forward to seeing pics of brooder

Here are a few pics of my favorite brood

The splash is very pretty. I especially like breeds with small combs - I love silkies BUT their walnut combs (some much worse than others) just make me want to

@CanuckBock

pictures have always been part of our reports.

Analou was savvy with a PC so she kept logs electronically

Lillian is less skilled

The following is the piglet care flow sheet

I have others for egg counts, hatch logs, medication administration, feed inventory, feed batch mix logs and many more

I enter everything into a Microsoft Access database I designed and keep very good records

I get pics of everything

When a med is given. I want to see the vial

when I ask for pig or chicken moves, i want to see the result

My instructions are in two languages

As Bernie is off tomorrow, please wean piglets off the mamas now. Give pg600 now.

Put all piglets in tankal 2.

Move pig 3 in with pig 1 in tankal 5 by

Project status is updated daily with many photos

I am used to running hospital departments with 120 employees and 14 million dollar budgets

Running a farm in the Philippines has some similiarities but many many differences

Which one gives you more headaches?

I recall reading somewhere about someone having trouble with mosquito larvae in some small open water container, and that they had solved it by installing something that kept the surface moving all the time. Of course, the sealed containers are probably a better solution, but just a thought.

LOL
They both have their merits

We are very particular about mosquito abatement by not giving them places to breed. We even place our coconut shells so they can't collect water.A goat water fountain is not in the plans.

The nipples are awesome. For the 8 goats we will put in three. We just have to test them daily which taks about 3 seconds
