Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Well, she was a sneak snake for sure!

Yup

I seriously was trying to wrap my head around firing Ariel and thinking about a replacemen but it did not quite add up. Since he got his come-to-Jesus chat last week his work has been great.

I am glad I decided to ask Mrs Oz to clarify.

I can even hear the ilongo accent saying snake. its an easy mistake.

Mrs Oz told her mum who literally peed herself laughing.

Ay ambot sa Lillian (an expression of exasperation) lol

my system for composting is pretty straight forward.

we collect for a month in bay 1

at the end of the month that collection goes into bay 2

each week the pile gets moved between bay 2 and bay 3 to ensure its adequately turned.

after 4 weeks its transfered to bay 4.

after 2 weeks we start using the compost as a top dressing for our fruit trees and floer beds. At 4 weeks all remaining gets transferred to vege garden.

We collect pig poop daily - about 10 gallons and spread it out at a 2" thickness. We then cover it with 2" of hardwood sawdust we get from a local re-sawmill. All chicken litter goes in with changes as well as raked up leaves, cuttings and collected carabao poop.

our bays are 4'x8' and 4' high but we accumulate about 2' in a month.

Thank you very much! Your compost experience is much appreciated! :D
I'll be using pallets for my bays, but hoping to have something similar to yours, and I use fine shavings in mine, so won't have to add sawdust.

Hope your piglets start popping out very soon! :)

So Do I !!

I failed to address your question on drainage. As our soil is not soil but sand, we have no problem with drainage.

Is all good! Not like you're anxiously waiting for any newborns, or having employees wrestling venomous snakes in leaves, right?? ;) :D

I think I'll need to dig down a bit and put in a deep layer of sand, tho. Our soil has a heavy clay base...
