Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

I was woken by the neighbor putting his trash cans out for midnight last night.

By the time I went to sleep we sold 36000 pesos worth of chickens and 6300 in pigs.

We could dream of $1000 days for a long time lol

I have a buyer who approached me about a joint venture. He feels that I have such a strong presence that it would be too hard to compete but instead wants to franchise and pay a licensing fee to breed and sell under the brand.

Interesting...

Before your buyer gets a franchise have him succeed in raising Large fowl Brahma, if he can do that he is worthy.

Our very first chickens were brahmas. They do get big. Ours cant fly well. They wont even try to fly over a 3 foot tall fence.
Our cream legbars fly over an 8 foot tall fence. Imho they are aggrivating because they wont stay in their pen

My hesitance with Brahma is egg production. They seem to be better on the meat side of dual purpose than the egg production side.

While there is a market for them in the Phils, my focus is more on getting Wyandotte's, Marans, and other more known backyard breeds established.

I have seen a few light Brahmas for sale in the Phils already.

I have 8 buff brahma hens. They are terrible layers. We are lucky to get 4 eggs per day from them. They go broody very easilly too.
I have some isabel leghorns on lockdown now. Hoping for a male to cross with those hens to increase their production.....or on the brahma thread "totally destroy the breed" lol

I would not do that yet. Just now you have control over the whole enterprise.

You would not want someone else to take your business/profits/compete with you or dilute its worth at such an early stage.

Maybe at a later stage, but you will never be able to control what they do as if you were franchising a "Subway"
