I first found out Mozza was sick at 2AM.
At that stage I was in a mental daze and could not think. I knew she needed an antibiotic fast.
One of the issues with a water buffalo (or cow) is size. A 500KG animal takes a lot of antibiotic and therefor a lot of volume to inject when dosing in mg/kg,
So what to give.
First line for me is a CombiPen 48. Its 40kg of animal per ML, It lasts 48 hrs and its broad spectrum. Animals (and humans) in our area are basically antibiotic free so we get good results from basic antibiotics.
As this is indeed life threatening I added a Lincosamide class antibiotic. In humans we would be giving Clindamycin, We have a same class drug called Lincomycin. 30kg/ml so she also got that once I realized that she in the shyte.
If she is not improved this morning we will also add a fluoroquinalone Norfloxacin. It will take a whapping 40ml of injection. I hate giving this class of drug due to human use of cipro but we wont be eating her nor using her milk.
As you should not give more than 5ml per injection site - mozza will be a pin cushion.
When I was a lad working in the "ladies bits" ward 30 years ago we would give Gentamycin, Flagyl and Ampiicillin. ,
The job pays relocation with up to 3 months in an extended stay hotelHoping the best for Mozza!
When are you heading North to go house shopping or to scope out the neighborhoods?
