Yeah. Pretty sure this saying only applies IF you have a crowing rooster in the flock.. My six hens are late sleepers! The sun rises a little after 7:00 here and sometimes it will be around 8 or a little after before I get out to open the pop door if I happen to shut it the night before and those lazy birds are still asleep on the roost! I’ll get an irritated sounding ‘B’WAK, B’WAK, B’WAAAAAK.’ From one of them if I come out to open up the door before they’re ready to wake their lazy fluffy-butts up! lol!

That is funny! I kind of wish mine were like that lol!
I am not a real early riser and mine have never really been either thank goodness. On cold days they move slower I have found. They are smugglers from the word go. They like to go to bed at 6:30 and don’t mind snoozing until 8:30 if I let them right now one bit. One morning when the weather changed from the real heat the first time here in MS I think they went into shock and I had actually had an early appointment somewhere so I had to do chores early. I had to open up the coop at around 7:00 a.m. so they were just snoozing away in there all huddled up and I just served breakfast and my husband said it was another thirty minutes or so before they decided that they might come on out and eat some of it. Spoiled babies.
