The second photo is of Lloyd Bright's 145.50# Giant watermelon. It is a special bred variety developed from the carolina Cross watermelons. Lloyd has won the Guiness world record with his watermelons.

My favorite is the Desert King, a sunburn resistant, extremely sweet, yellow meat watermelon. We have grown these to 60+#. Most average about 20-25#.

A 145 pound watermelon wouldn't work for me. I don't have to feed that many people at one time. However, that is certainly an impressive looking melon.

Growing season is too short for watermelons around here, except that I have been able to get Sugar Baby to ripen. So I grow sugar baby.

These below are Summer Flavor 710. A very sweet melon. The seed was limited this year, so a friend planted Summer Flavor 800. Purdue University tested the SF 800. Its 12% soluble sugar. Average weight is about 28# with many over 30#. I love a sweet watermelon with a big heart.
