Hi Everyone,

A big thank you to everyone who posts on this great site. I've had my 4 hens since June 2011, when they were just 8 weeks old and love looking after them. The information on this site has helped us out so much, very comprehensive and so useful - I was checking information almost daily there for a while! We have an white Australorp, Barter brown, Barter black & RIR. Egg production has been every slow with the only the Barter brown & black laying, still waiting for the other two to get with the program.

Now I'm not sure who did this whopper, but I just had to share. A 99 gram egg!!!

Just too cool :)

Wow! Congrats! It probably has 2 yolks.
Welcome to BYC!

yyowza! I got a scale recently just for this kind of thing! Impressive. I also say hats off to people on this site, helped me get through the stressful first year, now I can actually enjoy the girls.

I'm sure my Barter black is a twin, she is always laying double yolks. Can chickens be twins?? it stands to reason doesn't it?

My grandchildren showed me a U-tube video of someone filming the hatching of a double-yolk egg. There were two chickens hatching out of the egg. They would certainly be twins. I wouldn't expect that twins happen to hatch all that often, however, unless it is in a lab where genetics are being manipulated.

Full brothers and sisters that look nearly identical is more likely.

My two breakfast eggs this morning were a double-yolker and a yolk-less 'rooster' egg.
