Gilberta’s Christmas!!!

Gil’s madeout great on her first Christmas! She got a little house that I bet she’ll chose to be her laying spot. She stole her moms heated blanket and mom and dad both got brand new kayaks that have plenty of room for her to sit in! Also, we’re trying out puppy pads in the indoor pen instead of towels. First note to self, switch to human pads. They’re bigger by a lot, more absorbent and cost less. We just had the puppy pads laying around though so we’ll try it out!!

Update already: she just wants to eat the puppy pads. She didn’t at first but quickly doscovered it. Her pens going through a major upgrade right now as her dad is expanding it. When we put the puppy pads back down along the bottom, we will cover it with chicken wire. Just an extra step added to cleaning her pen.... However I have really been wanting it to be larger. It’s really huge now though! House is mounted in it and I can’t wait to share pictures!

Speaking from our own duck room experiences... keep in mind while adding the chicken wire it will need rinsed off from time to time. So easy ways to take in and out without making a bigger mess. All possible with creativeness lol. I use fine pine shavings from TS. I have a small rubber kitchen tong to grab and thow away the girls messes. I do this a few times a day and I'm wondering if it wouldn't be easier then washing towels. Although pine shaving's in the house could be more of a mess too. I added a 4inch rubber board along the bottom gate to keep shaving's in. Higher would be better. Helps but can be messy when they flap their wings lol. However easy to keep girls area nice. Whatever you do Gilberta is one lucky duck She is beautiful.
