I just ordered some ginger coturnix eggs, it is a sex linked recessive like roux, has anybody had any experience with the color? Can a hen carry both or just one (same locus on the chromosome?), any idea how it interacts with a gray gene like silver/Blau/Andalusian? It has been interesting watching Blau and roux interact, still not sure what is going on with that, but obviously if you can’t tell what color your quail are you should add another gene or six (definitely need some sparkly and other modifiers in the mix too). Wish I had lots of money and space, I’d breed my birds back to thieving otters clean brown line just to see exactly what I have in the mix. I had this brilliant idea when I first started out that I could keep track of which birds produced what but real life gets in the way and while it can be done and I have done it in particular cases, most are just random mixed flock eggs, but they are pretty and I’m enjoying seeing the variety so that is what matters I guess!
