Used some treated 2 x 4's and added some reinforced grommets so I could really stretch it tight. So far so good. We had some good gully washer and it did fine.

That setup might work well for me! I have a chicken tractor right now but I want to make a more permanant run and coop. The shady places will be difficult to sink a fence post, a dog run would solve that problem! I would put hardware cloth along the bottom to keep them from sticking their necks out and stuff.

How big of a run for 5 large hens? That's my ultimate goal, I have 4 smaller birds now, one hen that I know of.

Its all been fun and I've got to run some power over to it so I can get them a little heater for the winter. and they are already asking for a big screen tv.

I've read somewhere that for large birds allow 4 sq ft per chicken for inside and 10 sq ft for the outside. So the coop roughly 4' x 5' (20 sq ft) and the run about 5' x 10' (50 sq ft) but that seems a little small. The kennel I used is 8' x 13' (104 sq ft) for my 3 Banties and they seem to have plenty of elbow room. Do chickens have elbows???
