So I awoke to BOK BOK BOK BAGAWK! But not just from one hen, everybody was singing LOUDLY. I have 4 hens and a roo named BIG Al. Since my chickens free-range all day, I had been worried that my almost 20 week old hens (3 Prod. Reds and 1 BO) had been laying in the woods- but this morning one was sitting in of all things- one of the nest boxes. Bea sang and sat, sat and sang and all gave encouragement.
After 2 hours she got up and went for a drink- laying is hard work. I checked the box and there it was. EGG glorious egg. I took pics, brushed it off and placed carefully in a bowl. But the day didn't end there.
During part of this time, one of my other reds, Leila became very antsy. She seemed to want to nest in an empty wooden crate, but it was not comfortable. She was inconsolable, pacing and BOKKing. I finally left her alone. After some snack time, I noticed Leila was missing. I looked everywhere, then thought maybe the coop? Naw- she wouldn't. Eventually I peeped inside and she was on the floor of the coop, making a nest. After 1/2 an hour I saw her out and drinking.
I checked her nest spot, and sure enough, another EGG!
Two eggs in one day. Girls just can't stand to see another girl out-do them.

1st official egg courteousy of Bea my Production Red 19.5 weeks
