Give them babies or try to break them?

Should I let my broodies raise chicks again?

The cage is the kindest of most people's solutions IMO. And works the best. I have food and water in there for them, it's not like they starve. Others dip the whole chicken in ice cold water. This one though, she's proven impossible for me to break.

Yeah I finally let her have some chicks but ended up taking them away because she's such a terrible mom. Luckily I had another broody that was happy to take the extras. The silly girl didn't even seem to notice. Then after laying for a week or so she went broody again. I just let her set. It's bad for their health to do that but she is the most persistent broody I ever saw. Last time I just let her and did nothing. She sat there for 6 weeks. But she does get up for an hour or more every day.

I hope I don't end up with another like that. If they're going to be that persistent, at least be a good mom!

Ugh. I had one like that, too. She sat on the eggs and hatched the chicks, then ignored them and let the other hens kill them. We ended up taking the remaining babies and putting them in a brooder. She never noticed, and she went to Craigslist.
