giving 4 week old chicks antibiotics

hi all!

i got some babies and they came down with a respiratory illness. i decided to give them tetracycline. (the yellow powder in the water) my local feed store said 3 days on 3 days off and repeat until they are better.

is there a reason to take them off for 3 days? i've been giving them probiotics and will continue... could i just keep them on the antibiotics for 5-7 days? i'm feeling like a few more days and they could kick it.

I'm of the opinion that the directions are there for a reason. The antibiotics could be long-lasting and stay in their system for a few days, I suppose. I would just follow the directions on the bottle.

I think you are right! I took them off the antibiotics this morning. Sometimes there's seems to be "tricks" to this raising chickens thing... I guess there is not one here. Thank you!!!! ( :
