I am wondering if it is bad to break up a group of hens when they have been together since they hatched? This is my first mini-flock, so I don't know how they will be when I give 4 of them away. We had to order a minimum of 9 chickens and I have a friend that is going to take 4 of them, but will this cause a problem for the remaining 5? My chickens are now 13 weeks old. My coop wasn't made for 9. The coop itself is 4x4x4 with 3 nesting boxes attached. The outside run is 12x4. I do let them outside the run for about an hour, after I get home from work.

I have 4 Buff Orpingtons and 5 Gold Sex Links.

Please let me know if you have experienced this or not.

Thank you!!!

My mother lived in the city, and she hatched out about 12 chickens, she was only allowed 5. This is how I started into chickens lol. I took 7 of her brood, left her with five, all of the girls were much much happier with having more room.
One thing we did to make sure there was less upset of the pecking order... I took all of the "top tier" bossy hens, because I had more room for them to be bossy, and she kept the timid ones. It worked out really well. Your girls will be just fine :)
