Giving too many eggs to a broody hen....... stops her brooding?

My Buff Orpington was brooding again this spring. Last year she did it more than once, and I put her in a separate little coop to get her to stop. Just last week she was brooding and I set 12 fertilized eggs under her, she stopped brooding! Has anyone ever experienced this? I don't know. I wonder if she got 'overwhelmed' with having 12 eggs under her and she just decided to give up, stop brooding?

How long had she been sitting before you put the eggs under her?

I doubt it was the number of eggs that you put under. She just wasn't ready.
