We (DH, me and our two boys, 8 and 5) bought 5 chicks from the local feed store five days ago. One each of Ameracauna, Cuckoo Maran, Light Brahma, Golden Campine, and Silver Lakenvelder. I came here in a panic this evening because while I was cleaning out their cage, I found large lumps on three of the five, and smaller lumps on the the other two. After a brief search, I found out that this is most likely due to a full crop, thank goodness!!!
I was dreading the thought of sick little chicks...my boys would have been very sad.
And talk about addicting...I went back to the feed store earlier today, and they had several new chicks, all of different breeds from the ones we just got. I almost bought some!! Because two boys, three dogs, and five new chicks aren't enough to care for right now!!
Anyway, I look forward to learning a lot more about chickens and I know we will enjoy them.
