NorthFLChick's advice to explore the learning center is the place to start.

Explore the forums, feel free to ask questions.

There are quite a number of members in your area, you can find them under "where am I, where are You" forums. IMO people living in the same climate and location can be very helpful with a lot of suggestions on breeds, bedding, housing, etc.
