Should I put pine shavings on the floor of our chicken house? The flooring is glasbord. Our chicken house is Amish built from Horizons. We have just built the house and the run and will be moving our chickens to their new home in the next few weeks. Thanks!

We use pine shavings on our coop floor about 6 in. deep, we also use poop boards to catch the majority of droppings so the shavings are staying pretty clean. I really like the ease of clean up with the poop board and there is no smell in the coop at all, I keep a layer of fine wood shavings or sawdust on the board and just scrape it off every few days and dump it all into the compost bin. How big is your coop?

I agree - add several inches of wood shavings (anything but cedar) to give them something to peck about in, help insulate in winter time, aborb liquidy droppings, and to help keep the floor clean
