Glass incubator question.

I converted a 10 gallon fish tank into an incubator. I have an old woodstove fan on the very top of my incubator and I set it on a dimmer switch so I can control the speed of the fan. I did not drill any vent holes into my incubator at all. The top is foam insulation and I have a small vent on top. I will be setting eggs really soon and I will let you know how it goes!

Sounds like you were able to make the conversion to an incubator too. Nice going on using a wood stove fan! Are you holding consistent temperatures? Any cold spots? Does the air circulate fairly well to the bottom and all around? Fish tanks are much deeper than the LG I use so I'm always curious about how well the fans circulate the air. Great job on the conversion.

So far so good! The air circulates very well using the wood stove fan. There are not any cold spots that I am aware of. The fan and the light bulb do a pretty good job keeping the tempature steady. It took a little bit of fooling with the dimmer switches in order to get the tempature and the humidity right. But I think I finally figured it out. I have the tempature at 99-100 and the humidity anywhere from 30-40%. I don't let the humidity get below 25%. My tank isn't too deep only 12 1/2 inches. The eggs will be sitting on a shelf that is elevated off of the floor of the incubator about 5 inches.

What material did you use to make the shelf??

I used a type of woven wire. I put a type of plastic tubing around the edges of the wire so it is 100% chick safe. It is very sturdy.
