Hi everyone! My GLW has been singing an egg song the past few days but has yet to lay her first egg! She's close (red comb/wattles, just started squatting as of this morning, pelvic bones are separated) but nothing yet!

When I see her singing her egg song I usually go check the nesting box but -- nothing. Anybody have a chicken start singing a little while before her first egg?

Hoping to have another chicken laying soon since only our RSL is out of our 7 so far.

I know it'll happen when it happens but just curious what others experience is with this .;)

TIA everyone! :D

For sure they will/can sing their egg song before laying for awhile. She’s getting closer and it will be any day now! Just as a reference, all my GLW pullets hatched in July are laying, only the pullet hatched in August isn’t laying yet...

Interesting! Mine was born late August, so I'm hoping I'll see some eggs soon! I hope yours starts laying soon too!

Yes, pullets can be very noisy near onset of lay,
both the ones laying and the ones close to laying.
I call it the Raucous Cacophony.
One year I had a particularly vocal group of pullets...
...I could not believe how loud they were. SMH.

Well hopefully I'll start seeing eggs soon from our GLW! :fl

I have that "Raucous Cacophony" thanks to several of my GLW's! They cawk and squawk most of the day!! One in particular is exceptionally loud, just walking around making a terrible racket.
