Little black nats are flying around my hens. They are getting irritated and flicking their heads to get them off. Any suggestions on how to keep them off my hens or even how to keep them out of the yard? I live in Mississippi if that helps.

When i lived in new england we call them black flies. They are awful but only temporary. They have a cycle in the spring. About 6 weeks. No one is able to find anything to repel or even kill them. One remedy that works the best is Avons "skin so soft" spray. We would put it on the kids but it only lessens the amount of bugs that bite them. Some towns even have Black Fly Day with a parade. A day to celebrate them being gone!
The good news is they are gone in a little over a month. Im guessing these are the same bugs as up there.
