I have a goat that is about 100 days into her pregnancy. The past 2 days she has had a lot of discharge, which started out as pinkish mucus and now looks more bloody and less gelatinous. Anybody have any experience with goats that have miscarried? She seems comfortable and is running around and playing like normal. I have been checking her temps in case of infection and plan to call the vet if this discharge doesn't clear up by tomorrow to make sure she completely expels whatever it is that needs to come out. The only thing I haven't seen yet is any sign of a fetus. Someone told me she may have had a false pregnancy. Anybody have any experience with that? Anyone had a goat abort one fetus and go on to kid a live twin?

Thanks,
Janine

Are you absolutely positive of her breed date? I've had one of my does start loosing her plug a month before she was due. Is the discharge bright red or brownish. If brown then it's old blood. I also had 2 does have cloudbursts/false pregnancies last year. The first doe had the sac hanging out of her when I found her and my other does just had blood on her backside. If it's a false pregnancy then she'll only deliver a sac, no kids or placenta.

Hi, yes I'm sure of the date because I was there when she was bred. She does have crusted blood around her tail. I suppose she may not have been truly pregnant at all. A false pregnancy? How disappointing... : (

Thanks for your reply.

I'd probably take her to the vet to make sure she cleaned out all of the way....whatever is happening to her. Then they could tell you if she's miscarrying or having a false pregnancy.

Sounds like she aborted, or is aborting to me. You may or may not find a fetus.
