Goat and Sheep Thread!

I feel ya! I was actually planning on supplementing with some feed on a regular basis. Do you think that would help with the parasite issues?
I think it depends on the feed and how/where/when you offer that feed. Mine refused to eat regular grass hay when there was yummy fresh vegetation out there to eat and they would complain and escape if they couldn't get to it. I never tried it, but Anne seems to think Chaffhaye is the ideal winter/supplemental feed. Goats love grain/goat feed but too much of it will obviously make them sick (and too much can be a small amount!). It's really only good as a tool for moving and milking them.

I just welcomed three Ouessant that I hope will get along with my flock of Brahmas since they share a large area for free-ranging (chickens have their own coop and run). At the moment, the chickens are pretty freaked out by the sheep and both gangs like to hang out under the same trees so it's been a bit stressful. I'm hoping they'll get used to each other! I kept them separated by a fence for the first week but now they are all together.

How is it for you? Did your chickens warm up to having sheep around?

I can't believe someone actually has Breton Dwarfs! 😲

I would love to hear more about the Ouessants. If I had sheep (and they were available here), I think that I would want them.

I do dream of having a few goats someday. An angora mix. Anybody with angora or mixes?
So far they are wonderful! They are tame, friendly, inquisitive and super cute, and they'll even eat brambles which is a nice bonus where I live. I've had to catch them to deworm them once, and I was very happy that they are so small and light 😅

I don't have any Angoras or crosses, but I shear quite a few of them. I like them a lot. I shear some Nigoras that have some funny personalities. They are really fun to shear. If I had the opportunity, I'd keep some in my flock.

I don't have any experience with Ouessants but I have worked with quite a few Soays that might or seem to be similar.

The ones I know are a bit flighty, typical primitive sheep trait, but they are very sweet. Neat little sheep.
