Coolest thing happened today in Sparta NJ. I was on a work call looking out my window when I suddenly saw my one Nigerian dwarf goat run across the yard and head butt a huge red-tailed hawk who was attacking on of my chickens. The hawk flew up to a low hanging branch and left a trail of chicken feathers throughout the yard. The goat would not leave the chicken until I came out. At this time the hawk squawked at me a few times and left. Is it normal for Goats to attack hawks in protection of their friends, such as chickens?
I have goats and I raised an orphaned raccoon,That raccoon will never get close to a goat again! The queen of the herd sent her flying! Since then I have noticed that nothing gets close to the goats.
Not even the chickens!
Wow. You have a great goat to protect your birds. A neighbor had some goats that I used to take care of before they moved. I never saw any hawks. I did put the goats in their stalls in the evenings and let them out in the mornings because we have had such a huge coyote population. Another neighbor who always left his goats out in his pasture would loose one occasionally to coyotes. Good luck and have fun...
