goat babies....

Im thinking about breeding my 2 goats. One is a pygmy and the other is a nigerian dwarf. I have never bred and delived goat babie before and i think it would be a good learning expereience. I was wondering do pygmies and nigerian goats have trouble giving birth??

I'm not the one to ask (I've only got two wethers), but here is a BUMP!

From what I have read learning about goats... pygmies and nigerian dwarfs are the same breed, except pygmies have a "stubby leg" gene. So, if that holds true you will get some shorties and some taller ones! TOO CUTE!!

Although they have similar origins, Nigerian Dwarfs and African Pygmies are separate and distinct breeds, with recognized differences. Pygmies are bred to be "cobby" and heavy boned. Dwarfs are bred to have the length of body and more elegant structure that's similar to their larger dairy goat counterparts. Pygmies are also primarily "agouti" patterned, with black, silver and caramel being the most common colors.

I raise ADGA reg. Nigerians and have for 4+ years. I've (knock on wood!!) never had any have kidding problems.

Pygmies can have kidding problems if they are "well bred", as in how they keep getting bred more for squattier bodies and blockier heads, thus they don't come out real easy. No personal experience, just heresay from some nigie people I know that have show pygmies as well.
