Goat Breeding Questions- I'm clueless

One thing is you most definatley want to separate them if they live together she is most likely already bred she must be atleast 1 yr old before she should be bred but if shes large it can be 9 months and after. it's never a good idea to keep a buck and doe together unless the boy is banded (whethered).

If they are of breeding age...separate them for 2 weeks and then put them back together. When we house our bucks with does...they stop coming in heat and get used to each other ...when you put them back.he will be aggressively trying to breed.

I have one buck and 3 does, my oldest is the bucks mother, she has twins each late april or early may, I have seen him trying to mount her and she just ignores him until she is ready. They all live together with 2 weathers, when the babies are born I separate mom and kids until they are older.

And they do stink when the female is in heat, not only does he urinate on himself but he will on the other goats also. When the females are close to coming in heat he gets lots of "stiffies". For some reason when one of the does are in heat and he stinks the worst that is when he wants lots of attention, rubbing his head on my leg and hip wanting to be scratched, which I do then go change clothes and wash up. I feel it's not his fault that he stinks and I dont want him to get mad and turn mean because I wont scratch him.

Good luck.

Part of his rubbing on you is him marking you as his. Lol

I love the stinky boys. They are so funny to watch and if you have a good one they are very lovey. The only time I have seen prob gonna get flamed) is when the dog was out and got to close to the kids. The kids are currently living with daddy till they get big enough to stay in the girls pen. Daddy immediately threatened and went after my dog. Poor dog was upset. All he wanted to do was check his charges. Lol

My kids are all born. Now I am waiting till breeding season again. Then stinky boy gets to do his job again.

Thank you everyone that's posted. It took so long to post back because I lost this thread

Here's what I know:
The goats were bought full grown(don't know exactly how old). I don't know the breed, but I think they are 2 different breeds. The male has long black hair with some brown and long horns that twist(does that make sense?). The female is brown on the front half to her head and white towards her tail and has short horns. I don't have a picture of them or it would be alot easier

.
I will have to tell him to keep the male away if she has any kids. When I see him again I might tell him to come here

It definitely sounds like the female has some boer in her, which is a meat breed. The buck, though - who knows. So many breeds can fit that description.

I don't really know boer goats, but I believe they are seasonal breeders - again, that doesn't mean she can't be bred during the spring/summer months, it just means their "normal" breeding season is about Sept - January.

I would recommend your friend visit here or, better yet, Backyard Herds if he has specific questions. There's a ton of good info on there and a few good people too.
