The dairy goat market here apparently is atrocious. I spent several months trying to sell a purebred Sable doeling, with little interest. I had an offer to trade her for a 6yr old dry doe that they've never been able to breed. Why they think i'd want to do that I have no idea, i'd rather feed a productive mouth than a freeloader. Now i'm having a hard time even giving her away, especially with several people wanting me to give her to them AND deliver her 150 miles away! I just don't need her, but there isn't a thing wrong with her. Should I keep her, breed her and then try to sell her?
I need to purchase a buck to breed to my Sable doe this fall. I'm considering buying a Boer and hedging my bets with the meat market, or possibly even raising any unwanted kids for us to eat (although the idea doesn't exactly appeal to me). Is this a good idea, or would it make any kids even harder to get rid of than having pure Sables?
