Goat crying all the time

I bet if you got her another female from the herd she came from she would likely stop. she is likely missing her own family.

I agree. She needs another gal pal to cuddle with to keep warm. I also know what you mean about how pathetic a crying goat can sound.

It's so sad but can stop fast when they get what they want...lol.

She absolutely needs another friend of two - i've kept goats all my life (not now though) and they really are best kept in a little herd. Its awful listening to them crying!

I am new to this site, so forgive me if I'm doing this wrong.

I have 2- 14 week old Pygmy goats.One boy(wethered)and a girl. they have been together their whole life. They did come from a farm of about 60 goats. Just recently the female cries all the time. This gets the boy crying. If someone goes out in the pen with them, they're fine. We purposely got 2 so they wouldn't be lonely. What can I do? Is this normal? These are my first goats, but everything I read before getting them said they are relatively quiet animals. help

Are they eating enough? You don't say how long you have had them, if you got them recently, they may still be getting adjusted. As long as they have plenty of hay and water, I think they just need some time to get used to the new surroundings.

We have had them since they were 8 weeks old,so about 6weeks. They have plenty of hay and water and we give them grain twice a day. When I feed them, they're quiet for a little while. Could they just be bored? Or just really want to be with us? Grace stands at the fence looking out and cries ,then she gets Beau crying. I go out and sit with them at least twice a day and usually once at night after they are in. I sit with them and brush them. They are still "coming around". They were very shy at first and have just recently started to come up to us and let us pet them.The woman we got them from said :force yourself on them for 3 days. They will scream ,but after the 3rd day, you will be mom." It;s been more like a month. Grace lets me pick her up without crying, but Beau still screams when I do.Is this normal behavior? I'm worried the neighbors are going to start complaining about their crying. We have let them out in the rest of our yard to run around with us and our dogs. Could we have spoiled them and now they want to be out all the time? Nothing I have read or anyone I have talked to said anything about this. I don't know anyone else who has goats whis having this problem.

1. what breed are they ? anglo nubians are super vocal, for anything from hunger, to boredom to just plain conversation.
2. u spoiled them; they are used to being in the yard with you and others, and goats are herd animals, so u have now pujt them away from their herd (you and whatever else is in the yard)..
3. build a game yard for them: boxes or rocks to climb and jump on, or a barrel that cant roll over (laid on its side but fixed in place) to crawl inside or stand on, a ramp and platform to climb and lay on...
4. put a ball in the yard, one that they can pick up and run around with, but not swallow or bite pieces oout of it. mine loved plastic water bottles but those are dangerous. branches of forage hung up so they have to be goats, and stand on hind feet to pull ta the leaves will keep them busy. DO NOT USE A HORSE NET. i hung two of my babies by accindent when using a horse net for hay and they caught themselves in it many many years ago...

goats are intelligent and friendly and group oriented... so they will be vocal about being left alone. also, dont feed every time u go to the yard, as they will yell, and then u feed them, so they have learned that yelling=food.
some goats, just like some people, like less handling or being picked up; brushing is good, can also teach them simple commands (a little old for that now, but i managed to teach one of my kids to sit , jump up, off, and say hello.... food obviously is the reward for modulating the behaviors.

I think you are right about them being spoiled. I also think Grace was in heat. They are Pygmies and are about 3 1/2 months old. I don't give them food every time I go in the pen, but have cut back even more. I also think Grace is just plain ornery! She finds ways of escaping whatever we put her in, then poor Beau stands there hollering for her. Today she jumped the 4 ft. fence in her pen. We do have things for them to climb on, but are in the process of adding more. My husband is looking for an old jungle gym (the kind with ramps and a platform). I do have a ball for them but after reading your post I think it;s too big. I thought they would like to push it around. I wouldn't have thought they would like to pick it up and carry it around. Maybe she needs another girl goat with her so she wont be lonely.

When I first bought my goats home (2 boys) and took them away from their family, they cried for DAYS non stop except at night. After several days they finally got used to their surroundings and stopped crying. My breeder told me this was normal.

They live with my horse, and now every single time I take my horse out riding they both scream at the top of their lungs non stop until I bring my horse back. Lol.

regular goats come in heat around 8 months old and usually, at least here in the mediterrenean,they come in heat around august, but mini goats and tropical goats cycle differently then the med types...
