Hi! We have an 8 year old male Pygmy goat who has been with a male mini horse for the last 4-5 years and the goat followed the horse everywhere. We just decided to sell the horse since another farm has a better set up for him. Our goat is now besides himself crying and looking all over for his horse companion. We also just purchased another 2 year old male fainting goat as a new companion for the other goat. Will the 9 year old goat eventually stop searching for his horse friend or did I handle this all wrong? It breaks my heart to watch him wonder around lost and crying. It’s only been a day so I know it’s still early. Thanks for any input!

That is so sad. Yes, 4-5 years is a long time to have a buddy just to have him be taken away 😭

But I understand sometimes it’s best to give an animal a better home. Hopefully he’ll warm up to the new addition, but I don’t doubt he’ll be sad for a while.

My dog built a strong friendship with a potbelly pig in just 2 weeks and then the piggy died and my dog took it personally. Laid down next to his dead body and wouldn’t let us burry him.

So I can only imagine the grief of a lost buddy after 4-5 years.
