goat loosing hair

I toatlly agree with ksacres. For your animals to get bugs is no reflection on your care / management. To allow it to go untreated is.
You may also want to give them some black oil sunflower seeds (in the shell) this will really help with the dry skin.

Thanks, your support makes me feel less ashamed.

do you think I should also give them some ivermectin too? The vet seemed to think that the powder would do it but there is a lot of area to cover and what if I miss a sopt and I can't get rid of all of them?

I give one cup of black oil sunflower seeds to each goat per day. Do you think I should increase their ration?

I just brushed them all out to get rid of the rest of the hair and noticed that the skin is very, very flaky. and even crusty around the bottom of the legs. I still haven't seen a single bug or eggs. How small are these things? My skin is crawling though.

I am going to take a picture for others that in the future use this as a reference. Thanks for the help everyone.

No need to feel ashamed. Problems can crop up no matter how long you've been raising goats. It's what you do about it that matters.

Lice can be seen with the naked eye, but they can move fairly quickly so you may never actually see one.

If it were me, I would use the powder and dose with Ivermectin.

One cup of sunflower seeds is plenty.

What else are you feeding?

Can you post pictures?

What is their yard like? Wet? Dry? What about their bedding?

Tea tree oil will be useless. If you are bent on using that approach, get some food quality DE and dust the goats with that. Just know that while it will kill the bugs that are on the top of the skin, it will do nothing for those that are under it.

I just put DE (food grade) all over my two does. They have been scratching themselves and doing the "stomp~flinch~tail twitching" dance and rubbing themselves up and down the woven wire. Cute antics, but probably for all the irritating reasons. I don't know if they have anything, but I put about 1/4 cup of this stuff all over them and they looked powdered sugared.

I'm hoping it will help. If I notice a big change, I'll let you know.
