Goat making weird noises????

My female goat has started baa-ing like she has a sore throat. She was fine yesterday then today she started up the barely there hoarse sounding cries. Both she and my male (he has been banded) are very vocal goats. They are both around 4-5 months old. Should I be concerned?

My lamb's baa-'d herself hoarse a few times. It could be caused by illness though, or eating something inflammatory or irritating. It could also be due to coughing which in turn could be due to parasites, illness, irritating environmental factors, etc. You'd need to check them a little more thoroughly to be able to eliminate the possible causes, and a little more backstory is necessary in order to rule out some possibilities. As far as I know, I have never heard her cough. She eats mountain grass, grains and they really like to eat bark. Plus they nibble on leaves. I have 2 other goats that do everything she does, so maybe she is just hoarse! Other than her scratchy voice, she has been doing everything completely normal.

Well, I don't really have any suggestions for you other than the obvious (keep an eye on her for a bit)... My mother's dog's taken to coughing in the wee hours, which I think is due to him deciding to sleep in a moldy pile of hay recently... Are your goats possibly at risk from molds in hay or similar? It is of course possible she's just baa'd herself out.

I don't think so. My husband and I keep their sleeping area clean as can be and they get fresh hay everyday, never hay that has gotten wet. She sounds a little better this morning. So maybe I was worrying for nothing? Better safe than sorry though, I do love my little babies!

Give it a day or two and see if she improves. If she does not improve (get her voice back) or looks worse, I would consider giving your vet a call. Is she eating/pooping/drinking normally? I've occasionally had goats cry themselves hoarse and it took a day or two to get their voice back. Usually this would happen after they were stressed.

Sorry for not replying sooner, but it has been go go go for me these past few days! My girl is 100% back to normal. She was always eating and going potty normal. She just cryed herself hoarse and that's all. I have read up on acv uses and will def get some! Thanks everyone
