So I was at the Flea Market and I found a pair of Spanish Goats with Tassels.... I fell in love with the Female. I dont need the male so I left him behind even thow I really wanted to take him, but I did not want to pass up this chance to add a Tassel Female to my Herd. My stocky Boar Billy Goat "Parker" loves the new female.

What do you think the Tassels are for? or what they could have been used for? Is the tassel gene a Dominant or Ressesive trait?

Considering that some goats have them while others do not, I belived they were used for something they are no longer being used for, hence the fact that other goats do not have tassels.

Are you talking about wattles? Little fleshy bits that hang down under their jaw? Wattles are just something that some goats have. They dont have any purpose. You have about a 50/50 chance of them having offspring that will have them.

Ive always loved Wattels / Tassels that hang from the goats neck. Ive had goats, but never any with Wattels... Apparently they are hard to come by and I dont see them too often in my area. So when I went to the flea market and saw a young pair with wattels.. I had to take the Female. I kinda wanted the male, but the male was not Stocky like my breeder, and I dont need another male. Im hopeing that when my female breeds, she will give me a baby female with wattels..

Ill post pictures tonight.. She has no name yet... I love her, and her color is whitish. Im thinking of maybe calling her SARA!

P.S. The guy said he has over 200 other goats that he is selling and he never gave wattels a second thought, so He said he would bring others next saturday... So Ill be at the flea market next saturday to look for more females with tassels.

Wow. I think those things are weird. I prefer mine NOT to have them. To each his own. They are quite common in my area. I like how you call them tassels. Way better than waddles! And yes they serve no purpose. They can pop up in offspring even when neither parent has them but idk the odds
