I am getting ready to breed my alpine doe and I am looking for advice. We have a Boer buck and we are purchasing a Nubian buck. I am not happy with the amount of milk my Alpine produces, so I was hoping to breed her to the Boer and use her kids for meat. Will she have kidding problems if bred to a Boer? She is 130 pounds. She has had 2 single buck kids, one was 8# the other was 9#. She has never had any problems kidding. She will be 3 next March. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, it's fine. It's actually recommended to those who want a milk goat and meat goats. I've though about doing the same when I finally get goats.

Thanks. I am getting a couple of Boer does to breed for meat as well, we just have a large family so we go through a lot of meat. I would not breed my first fresheners to him, they are too small, I just wanted some advice about my Alpine. I know Nubians can be bred to Boers as they are larger when full grown.
Hope you can get some goats soon!

Sounds like a plan. :) How do you guys like goat meat? I've never tried it. It seems so foreign to me.
Yeah, I'm not holding too much hope for me getting goats any time soon. We have way to many extra animals right now. I have to get all the extra chickens butchered, ducklings rehomed and/or butchered, kittens rehomed (but not butchered

) and a meat rabbit slaughtered before I can ask my dad for any more animals. (Except I am going to ask him for a puppy soon, but that would be my financial responsibility, not his, so it doesn't count.)

We haven't had any goat meat yet. some people say it tastes like lamb, others say it tastes like deer. We like both so we will like goat meat. We probably won't have any meat until next fall. We ended up selling the extra buck kids as pet wethers.
