Swollen leg

So sorry . Sounds serious. Glad you have a vet ootion: many of us don't.

Yes we are very very lucky to have access to one- we actually have several semi local exotics vets, some better than others. I didn't have these options where we lived before.
We called back our more local option and they said to just go ahead and bring her in now so my partner has just taken her in. Will update once she's home

The vet suspected bumble foot, and due to the heat in her leg he's prescribed antibiotics as well as pain relief and anti inflammatory

I was concerned of this based on her feet but I'm still slightly surprised as it happened over the course of 3 days and she can no longer walk. Perhaps it worsens faster for some?
Anyway, we will trust him for now and do the medications, if there's no improvement after a couple days or she continues to worsen, we will take her to the more specialised vet for a second opinion. For now I have the medications that I wanted to give her so I feel better and she'll feel better too. He said that if the antibiotics don't get the bumble on the run, he's willing to surgically treat it as the next step.

Should I cage her to prevent her using the leg, or since it may be bumble should she be fine walking on it? (Because of pain meds, I don't know if I should allow her to run on it?) I feel like she doesn't need caging since it's most likely bumble, but I am going to try and keep her on the grass/soft areas.

Glad you have a diagnosis and medication. Once she is ready to walk, I would let her.

I keep sick and injured ducks in the house for closer more frequent care. If they are sitting, I often use a pet carrier with top and front doors. If they are on their feet, I use a dog crate. I haven't had to bring a duck inside for company for the patient, but people often do for inseperable companions.

Update: she's still not really any better. The swelling and heat persists after almost a week of antibiotics and anti inflammatory, vet wants us to bring her back for x rays and a small incision to assess/rule out internal damage from the infection, and from there we will try harsher antibiotics and perhaps surgery if we can/need to.

It'll be pricy but I don't care about the cost, I want my sweet Spry better

Update:
we ended up not needing the x ray, and she started to improve just when we started to dread the worst- the antibiotics started working.

However she began heavily losing weight as she stopped eating, after losing about 100 grams we started force feeding her raw egg, critical care formula (glucose and whey protein) and blended oats with nutritional yeast and rooster booster, three times a day.

Happy to say her weight decrease has slowed to a stop and she should start putting weight back on. After starting the force feedings, she got a lot of energy back and started standing more, using her bad foot and being a little more sassy.

She's currently still on antibiotics, pain relief and anti inflammatory, and I'm still force feeding twice a day. Today was the first time in well over a week that she ate a handful of mealworms and some fruit by herself. So feeling very positive!
The bumble is a little smaller, swelling and heat are going down slowly and she is able to walk with a limp now. Still have her indoors with Dougie in a small space to encourage rest.
